Code Blue Episode 01 Summary (J)

Finally found time to complete watching the new episode of Japanese Medical Drama "Code Blue" . The first episode hasnt drawn me in yet. I am unsure if it is because I am watching it in hotel while running a 100 errands or simply because there isnt much excitement in the first episode to capture my attention 100%.

Code Blue 01 Review

The story started off with 4 interns who opted to work in the heli-emergency department. As predictable as it is, we have one cool calm all mighty handsome dude-Aizawa, one intelligent but seemingly lack of self confidence in real time diagonsis female intern -Shiraishi, one overly eager, naive emo and not so capable bookish guy-Fuikawa, and finally a seemingly easily moved by circumstances female intern (not sure about her abilities yet) - Hiyama.

Of course, we must complete the cast with a super capable strict stern and unfriendly mentor -Kuroda. Must not forget remaining ground staff who are waiting to see which intern will drop out from pressure and stress.

So u can see, the initial setting is already so expected and typical as of all the medical series that I find it hard to be sucked in immediately. The first episode didnt focus on any uniqe cases except alot of amputations of 2 cases etc. The series need to develop further with some twists to hold its ratings.

Of course the mystery of Aizawa is the main draw. Why is he so good? Why is he so calm and collected? What is his background? Why does he want to be the best renown doctor in the shortest possible time? That is the part of the setting tone i think of the drama to lure the viewership of young girls who are attracted to his good looks. However, I prob wont be watching this series much...so no summary for after this.

Brief Recap
There is nothing much to recap for episode one. In short, the 2 not so capable interns Fui and Hiyama "screw up" on their first day and did not gain immediate approval to be nominated as flight doctors immediately.

Kuroda said only intern doctors who can perform immediate correct diagonisis earn the right to be on the heli. So only Shiraishi and Aizawa caught his eyes on their first day. However, Shiraishi who volunteer to go on heli failed the first real life emergency heli flight case as she froze up seeing all the massive bled out and did nothing. Kuroda appearing disgusted at her inability took back the heli talkie when they got back to hospital and passed it to Aizawa instead as the next flight doctor.

In the next round, unsurprisingly Aizawa completed his mission confidently and even made a correct call in amputation of an arm of an injured worker to save his life on the spot and so he become the "star" intern recognised by Kuroda who feel Aizawa can operate on his own.

Shirashi bumped into Aizawa in the lift and asked hm how it felt. He said it was different and hot. Operating in the open field was unlike operating in the hosipital as he could feel the sweat down his back turning cold and he would have to wonder if sweat from his forehead would drip down as he operate. However, he found it interesting and that he is looking forward to all the different unique cases that he will come to see. In his view, the many varied cases/incidents he will learn and see as flight doctor in a month is comparable to what normal interns in hospitals learn in a year. Before he left the lift, he told a surprised Shirashi that "I will be the best famous doctor in the shortest time possible". A speechless Shirashi stood in the lift and stare at Aizawa departing figure as the door lift closed.
